Statoil Monroe County Energy Fund Announces Grant Recipients

Fund at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio Supports Monroe County Citizens

Hannibal, OH – The Statoil Monroe County Energy Fund at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) is pleased to announce the final recipients of 2015. The Statoil Monroe County Energy Fund awarded two grants to support Monroe County students and citizens.

The Statoil Monroe County Energy Fund focuses on projects that increase quality of life, create access to opportunities, or identify and implement a solution for a community need or issue.

Recent grant recipients include:

The iBELIEVE Foundation received a grant award to send 15 students from Monroe County’s River High School, part of the Switzerland of Ohio School District, to the iBELIEVE Student Leadership Summer Camp. Students will experience an immersive five-day, four-night summer camp and will continue to build on what they learned with year-round programming. Continued skill building, in combination with the valuable peer and mentor relationships, truly impacts each student, and in turn, their schools and communities.

The Ohio Valley Educational Service Center received a grant to support the Summer Teacher’s Academy, a professional development opportunity for high school reading and math teachers. The Summer Teacher’s Academy is part of the Student Readiness Project, a two-year improvement plan developed by a collaborative of 15 school districts and six institutions of higher education to reduce the number of high school students who need college remediation courses. Teachers will come together for two, three-day sessions, one Math- and one English-based, to develop teaching strategies to reduce the need for college remediation coursework. Expert facilitators will deliver techniques for content alignment and skill enhancement, as well as strategies for improving students’ soft skills and aspirations.

The Statoil Monroe County Energy Fund was created at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio in 2014 to support nonprofit organizations serving the citizens of Monroe County, Ohio, where Statoil operates. The Fund serves tax-exempt organizations, as well as those organizations and initiatives partnering with a tax-exempt fiscal agent, serving Monroe County.
