Center of Science and Industry, engages students
in a dynamic opening assembly and interactive science activities aligned with
the Ohio Academic Content Standards and the National Science Education
Young minds at East Elementary got a jolt of energy when COSI On Wheels arrived with the Investigating Energy program. Students began the day with a visit from Dr. Kilowatt who used different renewable and nonrenewable resources to power a new invention. Following this assembly, students participated in sessions to test conductors, build circuits, and compare the energy usage of household appliances. This innovative program stimulated the imaginations of the next generation of energy consumers.
Students at South Elementary explored the Solar System during COSI’s Astounding Astronomy Program. The day began with an assembly introducing the students to our solar system. Students explored the size and distance between the planets, the electromagnetic spectrum, the extreme cold of the outer planets and deep space as well as learned how the Earth is currently the only planet known to contain life. During hands-on activity sessions students maneuvered a remotely operated vehicle, identified constellations and watched the effect of air pressure on a marshmallow.
West Elementary will receive a visit from COSI On Wheels in December with a special presentation of It’s Simply Chemistry.
