Monroe County Care Center Receives Grant from the Monroe County Community Foundation

Grant Will Support the Memory and Music Project

Woodsfield, OH – Aging is a challenging time for individuals and those who care about them most. However, the Memory and Music program at the Monroe County Care Center seeks to ease those challenges by providing personalized music programs allowing residents to reconnect with their family, friends, and caregivers. This program is receiving support through a $250 grant from the Monroe County Community Foundation (MCCF), an inaugural grant awarded by MCCF.

“The Monroe County Community Foundation is pleased to support impactful projects across the county, like the Memory and Music project at the Monroe County Care Center,” said Gwynn Stewart, a committee member with the Monroe County Community Foundation. “We created MCCF to support our local community by growing resources and investing them in good projects and ideas across the county. We look forward to making more grants like these in the future thanks to the generosity of people who hold Monroe County close to their hearts.”

The grant to the Monroe County Care Center’s Memory and Music project will be used to develop personalized digital music programs to help residents struggling from dementia and other chronic cognitive and physical impairments. These personalized music programs will help residents reconnect with family, friends, and caregivers. The Memory and Music program will work with professionals and caregivers in the elder care facility to create a powerful, personalized music program that will enable each listener to reconnect, regain social skills, and live more fully.

“We are so grateful to the Monroe County Community Foundation for investing in the Memory and Music project through this grant,” said Joan Michener, Director of Social Services with the Monroe County Care Center. “Because of this grant, we will be able to offer this program to all of our interested residents – 24 at the moment – as well as future residents. Residents and other clients feel happier, more social, less anxious, and are more able to enjoy life through this person-centered care option made possible by this grant.”
