Students and Citizens in the Southern Local School District

Hemlock, OH – Donors, current and former board members, and people passionate sundae-socialabout the Southern Local community in Perry County gathered on Sunday, September 11over ice cream, sprinkles, and hot fudge to celebrate a major milestone: raising nearly $1 million dollars for the Southern Perry County Academic Endowment Fund (SPCAEF).

The event, held on the Southern Local School District campus in Corning, brought together people passionate about the Southern Local School District to celebrate nearly $1 million in funds while enjoying time with one another and ice cream. Local citizens and businesses supported the event, including Kathy Jones who baked cakes, Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl which provided the ice cream sundae toppings, and Anew View which created the floral centerpieces.

“The SPCAEF board is thrilled to share that we are just $11,000 from reaching our $1 million milestone,” said Angela Plant, president of the Southern Perry County Academic Endowment Fund board. “By reaching $1 million in endowment, SPCAEF will be able to award approximately $40,000 each year in grants and scholarships to Southern Perry County citizens. This day is the result of so many generous gifts from donors committed to the Southern Local community and volunteers committed to the cause. We look forward to seeing who will participate next.”

SPCAEF was established in 1987 to create resources to promote academic experiences for residents of the Southern Local School district. A member of the Community Foundation for Perry County’s Family of Funds and composed of 21 donor-established funds, SPCAEF partners with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) to provide scholarships as well as community mini-grants to promote academic excellence and enrichment opportunities for Southern Local School District residents.

SPCAEF is just $11,000 away from reaching its $1 million endowment goal.
