Guernsey County Foundation and the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio Announce a Grant to Byesville Elementary School

The Guernsey County Foundation and the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO) are pleased to announce a $1,800 grant to Byesville Elementary School for a comprehensive student reading program.

“We are excited to partner with FAO in funding this project,” said Cindy Bond, trustee of the Guernsey County Foundation. “In supporting Byesville Elementary School’s literacy efforts, we are helping them lay the foundation for students’ future educational and career success.”

The Guernsey County Foundation is a unique collaboration with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio to extend philanthropic resources throughout the county. The Guernsey County Foundation’s Family of Funds now includes over 30 members with more than $5.6 million in assets, significant growth since its establishment in 1998. The Guernsey County Foundation receives contributions and bequests of all sizes to fund unique projects and charitable organizations in the county

“The Guernsey County Foundation is a true model of community-focused philanthropy,” said Cara Dingus Brook, president and CEO of FAO. “They are serving their community by developing the resources needed for projects like this one. Ensuring a strong base in reading is essential to education and we are delighted to partner with the Guernsey County Foundation to support the effort.”

Byesville Elementary School, part of Rolling Hills Local School District, received a $1,800 grant award. The award will support Project STARS (Students Trying to Achieve Reading Success) implementation in Kindergarten through second grade classrooms. Project STARS will reach 225 students in the school through classroom literacy supplies and books, family literacy nights, literacy computer software, and professional development for teachers.

The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio’s mission is to create opportunities for Appalachian Ohio’s citizens and communities by inspiring and supporting philanthropy.
