FAO Announces Lee Beckett Legacy Scholarship Fund

The Foundation forAppalachian Ohio (FAO) is pleased to announce a scholarship fund for Nelsonville-Yorkgraduates has been established by two York HS alumni. The intent of the fund isto support the community by investing in the growth and development of theregion’s youth.

To insure area youthhave the opportunity to continue their academic endeavors after high school,the Lee Beckett Legacy Scholarship Fund will annually provide scholarship opportunities forNelsonville-York graduates pursuing post-secondary studies – includingtechnical, vocational, community or university courses.

The scholarship fund isestablished to honor Mrs. Lee Beckett and her work to support countlessstudents over her forty-three year career. Mrs. Beckett’s first teachingposition was at then York High School. As a teacher, mentor, counselor andfriend, Mrs. Beckett provided encouragement and support to her students, andenabled them to believe in their ability to succeed.

Throughout her teaching career, Mrs. Beckett went above and beyond to support the success of her students – whether assisting with scholarship applications or helping secure part-time jobs, her mentorship enabled students to realize their goals. As one student said, “she was perhaps the first teacher, if not the first adult, who made me feel that I had something to give.”  

If you would like to make a gift to the Lee Beckett Legacy Scholarship Fund to support the educational pursuits of Nelsonville-York students, your gift will be leveraged and matched dollar-for-dollar, doubling the impact of your generous donation. As the scholarship fund is endowed, your donation will never be spent – only the interest and earnings on the gift will be used to provide scholarship awards today, and far into the future. 

“The Lee Beckett Legacy Scholarship Fund will provide significant benefit to Nelsonville-York and beyond, bringing the community together to invest in the future growth and prosperity of our youth,” said Cara Dingus Brook, FAO President and CEO. “The Foundation is delighted to leverage the legacy of Lee Beckett to encourage others to support the post-secondary pursuits of Nelsonville-York graduates.”
